Carl Fischer To Handle Russian Music Catalogs
The NMP catalog, which features recent music by such established composers as Georgy Agachev, Andrey Espay (many Espay works are available on Albany Record CDs), Karen Khachaturian (nephew of Aram Khachaturian) and Boris Tistchenko (a noted protégé of Shostakovich) as well as rising younger composers like Vera Astrova, Alexander Klevitsky, Vadim Kulev, Alexei Larin and Oleg Oblov, will be represented by Carl Fischer in the countries of North America. NMP is the successor to the official Soviet State Publishing House (VAAP) for works produced since 1991.
The Kompozitor catalog, which is an independent catalog resulting from the decentralization of music publishing since 1991, includes many useful pedagogical works as well as concert music by younger composers. It also features two arrangements by violist Yuri Tkanov of celebrated works by Alfred Schnittke (the Chamber Symphony arranged for Viola and Orchestra) and Dmitri Shostakovich (an arrangement of the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra No. 1, Op. 107 for Viola and Chamber Orchestra). Carl Fischer will be representing the Kompozitor catalog throughout the world outside of Russia and the other countries of the former USSR.
This is an exciting prospect for Carl Fischer, the composers and publishers involved and the timing could not be more auspicious, since 2007 marks the 200th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United State and Russia.
