Yamaha today introduced the YVN Model 3 one-half and YVN Model 3 three-quarter violins—two fractional sizes of the company's award-winning YVN Model 3 Violin.
The new models build upon the success of the original model, which earned a Best in Show award when it was first introduced at last year's NAMM music products convention. The addition of the fractional sizes to the full size now completes the YVN Model 3 violin offering.
Nearly a decade ago, Yamaha challenged itself to manufacture a high quality, durable student violin with greater precision, while generating less waste in the process. At the same time, the violin had to have excellent playability and a warm, rich sound to inspire young musicians. The result of this rethinking process is the YVN family of violins, which break new ground in the manufacture of string instruments for developing players, academic music programs and the rental market.
Like the full-size violin, the YVN00312 and YVN00334 utilize next generation technology to provide an exceptional playing experience, particularly for young students with smaller hands and stature. Drawing upon advanced building methods first developed for Yamaha percussion and wind instruments, these violins are constructed with the tight tolerances normally associated with much more expensive, luthier-built models.
A proprietary graduated "press-formed" spruce top offers exceptional resonance and the patented three-layer construction of the tops and backs uses just one-third the amount of wood previously consumed. These improvements allow the violins to sing with the rich tone of a graduated carved instrument while maintaining student-proof durability for renters, and all at a family-friendly price for those ready to invest in a quality-starter instrument.
Computer-aided design makes the Model 3 family of violins easier to service than traditional string instruments. Each piece is as precise as the one before it, so repair and replacement are simple tasks, making it both faster and more cost-effective to keep the violin at peak performance — an important consideration in academic music programs.
"Yamaha launched YVN Model 3 last year as a student outfit that offered consistency, durability, eco-friendly construction and great sound," says Ken Dattmore, strings marketing manager, Winds & Strings, Yamaha Corporation of America. "For the educator, each YVN Model 3 in their program means consistency of sound and a well-crafted instrument in the hands of their young students at every stage of their growth."
