WOMEX 19 Confirms its Full Programme and Schedule for the Upcoming Edition
After announcing the complete lineup for the Opening: Arctic Fire – Pohjoiset tulet, Showcase Line-up, Conference Programme, Film Programme and all the recipients for the WOMEX Awards for 2019, the organisers, Piranha Arts, with the announcement of Mentoring Sessions today confirm the full programme and schedule for WOMEX 19 in Tampere, Finland.
Over the course of three days, the remarkable 25th-anniversary edition of WOMEX, will host more than 60 musical acts with more than 260 artists representing 47 countries on 6 stages, 17 music based documentaries from across the globe, 25 conference sessions, mentoring opportunities with 9 experts including 3 roundtable and 5 one-to-one mentoring sessions, 15 network meetings, 5 offWOMEX presentations and our newly added Discovery Sessions format that aims to give a glimpse of the diverse sounds and scenes of Finland in four 10-minute presentations.
Kayhan Kalhor (Iran/USA), internationally acclaimed kamancheh (spiked fiddle) virtuoso will receive the 2019 WOMEX Artist Award for the ceaseless innovation and collaboration to create exciting new musical languages and for bringing the Persian classical music tradition to people all over the world.
Julie's Bicycle (UK), a London based charity will receive 2019 WOMEX Professional Excellence Award for rallying the creative and arts sectors in shouting with one powerful voice against the environmental crises that we are now facing.
2019's WOMEX Jury came from seven different countries, who are active members of the world music community. Together they curated this year's official showcase and conference spanning across all continents, from innovation to tradition, acoustic to electronic, inclusive of all sectors, expertise and genres.
