Sam Ash Music Celebrates New York City Superstore with Grand Opening
Grand opening celebration festivities for the new Sam Ash Music Store — including door-busters, free t-shirts, once-in-a-lifetime prices on top brands, artist and celebrity appearances, product specialists from top manufacturers, live musical performances and product giveaways — will be held Thursday, March 7, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Special Grand Opening prices will continue throughout the weekend.
Sam Ash Music searched more than 10 years for the right space to house its new superstore. “This new location enables us to serve our customers better than we ever could on 48th Street,” said Richard Ash, CEO of Sam Ash Music Corp.
Sam Ash opened its first Manhattan location on 48th Street in 1976, back when the famed street was populated by some thirty independently-owned stores, including Manny’s Music and Rudy's Music Stop. Scores of music legends the likes of Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Jimi Hendrix were known to shop the street for guitars, amplifiers, effects, as well as drums, horns and orchestral instruments and music. Over the past forty years, one by one, these independent stores closed and Sam Ash Music expanded its reach down the block into seven multilevel storefronts with specialties including guitars, brass and woodwinds, keyboards, and percussion. But while the real estate was impressive, the fractured music mega-block didn't make for the most convenient shopping experience.
“We have a lot of great memories on Music Row,” said Ash. "There is a lot of nostalgia associated with that street and we are proud to have been a part of its history. But we are very excited to have opened our doors on 34th Street. It’s truly an amazing place to shop."
