Ashoke Mukherjee founded Sonodyne in the late 1960s, and over the decades his company won acclaim in India and around the world for manufacturing consumer electronics and professional audio equipment that performed well and reliably. The business steadily increased and today benefits from over forty engineers and technicians handling research and development in two manufacturing locations (Mumbai and Kolkata) spanning over 100,000 square feet. Recently, Mukherjee earned the “Electronics Man of the Year Award” from India’s Electronics for You magazine. His son, Anindya Mukherjee, now helps to lead the company in the new century. Listeners in Europe and Asia have remarked on the “high detailing” of the Sonodyne speakers, something that is usually found only in significantly more expensive products.
“Despite the onslaught of cheap, new brands flooding the U.S., finally a manufacturer comes along that’s unique and above the rest. Sonodyne is a different kind of company, from its entrepreneur inventor ownership to its commitment to high-end performance. After extensive testing of Sonodyne monitors with our high-end L.A. and Nashville clients, we are impressed. The active SM 50Ak and SM 100Ak compact monitors offer a balance of virtues not currently available in the U.S. at this price point. It is no wonder Sonodyne is doing extremely well internationally. In comparison tests, they come out on top.”
Every aspect of Sonodyne monitors is designed to yield performance that translates and delivers the best in class sound reproduction. Cabinets are heavy die cast aluminum to minimize enclosure resonances. Drivers are the best available including Sonodyne’s proprietary Kevlar woofers. Bi-amplification is accomplished with in-house built large power supply analog amplifiers with lots of headroom, graceful even to clipping point. The company’s dedication to quality control is remarkable as is their aggressive research program that includes such subjects as exotic housing materials for future designs. Every single monitor that comes off the production line is tested and documented for frequency response, distortion, noise, and polar response.
The next wave of products will be tri-amplified near and mid field monitors with digital inputs, DSP, and analog amplifiers with a wood aluminum composite enclosure. Expected release date for these products is at Messe, in Frankfurt.
