Festival-goers were able to enjoy fresh names from the creative music scene under a blazing sun and splendid weather. They were 3,500 to turn in at 20 concerts presented at Colisée Desjardins and Cinéma Laurier. With attendance at the three sound installations in public spaces, the total participation figure is 13,500! This new programming was a complete success: our objective for the Festival to take over the city has been met with great interest and participation from Victoriavillois and festival-goers who picked up on the opportunity to tour the city, Musique Actuelle-style.
Obvious but expected decrease in attendance.
A few influential factors: a hiatus year in 2009, a more Quebec-centric line-up, competitive events in major urban centres, and the economic situation affecting the whole culture industry. This year, it seems that foreigners (from Japan, America, and Latin America) did not include Victoriaville in their choice of destinations. Therefore, FIMAV announces a deficit of around $25,000. This does not threated the Festival. In fact, it renews its will to move onward with a revamped comeback on an increasingly competitive scene. In keeping with a desire to remain at the avant-garde of the avant-garde, the risk diminishes and we embrace the future.
The invitation will be renewed next year… come to Victoriaville and live the FIMAV experience!
