Designed in the image of Gibson’s groundbreaking Tune-o-matic bridge, the GraphTech™ Ghost® system with ResoMax™ bridge enables this guitar to hide a powerful electro-acoustic tone in the guise of a contemporary Les Paul Standard. The Ghost® system’s piezo pickups sense vibrations from the guitar’s strings, and route these to an independent volume control, where it can be sent to its own amplification (via a Y chord, sold separately) or blended with the guitar’s traditional magnetic humbucking pickup tones. This bridge also offers all the adjustability of a traditional Tune-o-matic for precise string intonation. It is plated in chrome.
In the neck position of the Chad Kroeger “Blackwater” Les Paul, the 490R yields a smooth, creamy, rich tone for bluesy leads or warm rhythm work. The 498T in the bridge provides more grind and crunch through a semi-cranked amp, which segues into total wail in a high-gain rig, or produces beautiful chime and shimmer at cleaner settings. The GraphTech™ Ghost® system produces convincing acoustic-guitar tones that increase the versatility of this guitar exponentially.
The ghost Loaded ResoMax NV Bridges were designed to maximize harmonic content and richness in every note, retail the bite of a metal saddle, dramatically reduce string breakage and make restringing a breeze! The ghost loaded ResoMax bridges have custom-engineered piezo crystals installed in our String Saver saddles. Our String Saver saddles are corrosion resistant so in no way will sweat get into our pickups and short them out. Our ghost loaded String Saver saddles will provide the most authentic acoustic guitar sound possible.

Named by fans, the guitar is described on the Gibson website, “A mean-looking, hot-sounding contemporary Les Paul, the Chad Kroeger “Blackwater” Les Paul comes disguised as a traditional single-cutaway Standard with all the appointments that have made this guitar legendary for more than 50 years, but hides some simple yet clever surprises that expand its sonic capabilities exponentially. In addition to its traditional magnetic humbucking pickups, a GraphTech™ Ghost® piezo bridge and related electronics provide an authentic acoustic guitar sound that can be used entirely on its own, patched parallel to the magnetic pickups through two amps, or blended with the traditional tone. Roll from atmospheric ballad to rock anthem at the twist of a knob, or craft your own new tones that blend elements of both.
With its killer hand-stained Trans Black AAA-flame maple top and unique trim package – featuring a truss-rod cover engraved with “Blackwater” in silver – the Chad Kroeger “Blackwater” Les Paul looks as unique as it sounds, too. Plus, it features Kroeger’s own idea of adding white star decals along the upper back fretboard, aligned with the standard fret markers, which allow you to see where your hand is positioned when playing on a darkened stage. “
As the front man of Nickelback, Chad Kroeger has seen a lot of success and has a world wide following, multi-platinum collaborations with other artists, and has composed for film, making him “one of the most versatile artists working in rock today,” according to Gibson. It’s not hard to see why, with popular hits, from ballads to grungy anthems like “Rock Star,” “Photograph,” “How You Remind Me,” “I’d Come for You,” “Savin’ Me,” “Far Away” and “Someday.”
You can purchase the guitar from a participating Gibson Dealer, or if you just want to modify your tune-o-matic guitar with the modular ghost system to get the same acousti-phonic and/or MIDI capabilities, you can get more information at the Graph Tech website.
