2010 Avanti Fund Music Education Scholarships

24th Mar 2010 — Conn-Selmer in cooperation with Laura and Bickford Brannen, is pleased to announce that applications for the 2nd Annual Avanti Fund Music Education Scholarships are now available. Three $2,000 scholarships will be provided by the Avanti Fund, which was created by the Brannens who, along with Conn-Selmer engineers and flutemakers, helped to develop the Avanti Flute line.

These scholarships are open to all graduating high school seniors or undergraduate college students pursuing a degree in instrumental music education at an accredited college or university. The scholarships will be awarded for undergraduate study in Music Education. The scholarships will be applied to tuition costs at an accredited college or university offering an undergraduate degree in music education and must be used for study leading toward that degree. The eligibility requirements are (1) the applicant must be a high school senior or undergraduate college student in good standing, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (unweighted), (2) must have participated in one or more school music programs during each year of high school attendance at the time of the application, (3) the applicant must state his or her intention to pursue undergraduate study in the field of music education, and (4) the applicant must have completed his or her high school curriculum by June 30 of the application year.

Bickford Brannen is an iconic figure in the development of the modern flute. For thirty years, Bickford Brannen has been on the cutting edge of professional flute development and is widely respected by both flute makes and flutists around the world. His keen interest in making the Brannen sound more accessible to developing flutists brought him back as a design consultant to Conn-Selmer.
