Bremen, October, 5th 2009 — Going into its fifth round from April 22nd to 25th 2010 at Concress Center Bremen, jazzahead! has become an indispensable meeting point to the European jazz scene.
The numbers speak for themselves: In 2009, 232 exhibitors looking for contacts were met by about 2,000 professional participants and a total of over 5,000 visitors. “With our continuous work on the development of jazzahead! towards becoming a B to B trade fair, we meet the steadily rising demand of the international jazz scene. For 2010, we expect a further increase in the numbers of exhibitors and professional participants from all over Europe, including those countries bordering the European Union, as well as from overseas”, says Sybille Kornitschky, project manager at Messe Bremen.
That is why the 2010 motto is: „Discoveringchances“.
New possibilities are expected to be opened up by the first “Overseas Night” during which bands from Canada and Asia will present their music to an audience from the industry.
“We want the first Overseas Night to work both ways, because we also want label bosses, organizers and club promoters of our partner countries to come to Bremen to see and hear what our German and European bands have going for them” says Kornitschky. Producers and festival directors from Hong Kong, Korea and Malaysia, as well as representatives from Canada were the ones to successfully apply to become the hosts of the premiere of this new programme part that is to become a permanent feature of jazzahead!.
European jazz projects of aspiring artists are given the opportunity to demonstrate their virtuosity and range within the second European late-night-programmeme at the nearby Kulturzentrum Schlachthof now starting at 21.30 pm already.
Ten young bands that are proposed by exhibitors and selected by an expert jury will have the chance to fill one of the very coveted show-case slots. Showcase applications can be submitted until November 2nd. This year’s expert jury consists of Michelle Kuypers, programme maker of North Sea Jazz Festival, Bettina Geile, programme maker at Kulturzentrum Schlachthof, Arne Schuhmacher of Radio Bremen and Uli Beckerhoff, artistic director of jazzahead!.
The third German Jazz Meeting will also offer plenty new chances. As in previous years, participants will be chosen by a prestigious jury of 15 jazz experts and will be announced shortly. A total of twelve carefully selected formations will then have the opportunity to win the international professional audience over with their music on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
jazzahead! will take place from April 22nd to 25th 2010 at Congress Center Bremen, trade fair hall 4.1 and Kulturzentrum Schlachthof.
