Forming new networks to open up new markets in Asia and America

Bremen, February 20th, 2010 — jazzahead! has a new partner: the event LIVE! Global Performing Arts Exchange will be visiting Bremen in April. The jazzahead! organ-izers will then in turn be present at LIVE! in Singapore in June. This partnership serves to strengthen and stimulate the already existing connection to this year’s partner region Asia. The two partner regions Asia and Canada will present themselves musically with four showcases in the first ever Overseas Night at Kulturzentrum Schlachthof on Thursday, April 22nd, 2010. jazzahead! 2010 will take place in Bremen, Germany, from April 22nd to 25th – offering lots of possibili-ties for new contacts, partnerships and of course music at Congress Center Bremen, Kulturzentrum Schlachthof, and Musical Theater Bremen.

Besides featuring music from the partner regions, the Overseas Night aims at promoting the exchange between Europe and the respective regions. Participating guests include exhibitors from Korea, Malaysia, and China, as well as representatives of the Canadian jazz industry such as André Ménard of the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Great interest in European and German jazz productions has also been expressed by the USA, which is why jazzahead! will for the first time be present at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music conference and festival in Texas. In turn, the conference’s booking expert will visit jazzahead! in April. “Brent Grulke already told me that he will be attending jazzahead! and is looking forward to new inspirations, bands and musicians that he can meet at our event, as he is planning to increase the amount of jazz showcases at his”, says Sybille Kornitschky, project manager at Messe Bremen.

About 80 of the most renowned festival directors, program makers and media representatives worldwide will also take a trip to Bremen with the Federal Foreign Office once again organizing a theme travel to jazzahead! and the Initiative Musik extending invitations in the context of the third German Jazz Meeting. The Goethe Institute is also planning to hold a conference within the framework of jazzahead! and has announced the attendance of 20 institute managers.

The jazz scene will be meeting up for the fifth edition of jazzahead! from April 22nd – 25th, 2010 at Congress Center Bremen, Kulturzentrum Schlachthof and Musical Theater Bremen. Just as the slogan “discoveringchances!” implies, the main focus of the event lies in getting to know other players of the industry, exchanging knowledge and expertise and doing business. This is complemented by the concert and congress program which capture current developments on the market both musically and thematically. The opening night of jazzahead! will be the Overseas Night. In the European late-night-program, ten bands will present their music to the international professional audience. The evening concerts will feature three international acts at Musical Theater Bremen. The German Jazz Meeting will be held Friday and Saturday afternoon, presenting twelve bands.
