Roland Corporation U.S. recently installed a 36-station VIMA keyboard lab at Mariposa Elementary School in Brea, CA complete with thirty-six VIMA keyboards, a KR-107 Digital Piano and a lab controller.
Roland product manager Chris Halon relates, “We are honored to receive such a prestigious award for our work with Mariposa Elementary. Roland is dedicated to the support of music education in schools across the United States, and we look forward to another successful year.”
Mariposa Principal Dr. Helene Cunningham says, “We were thrilled to hear the news from our Superintendent that Roland pianos received our District’s Friend of Education Award by our School Board Members. On behalf of our entire school and community, we thank you. Your efforts have completely transformed our music program and will continue to enhance it for years to come. We appreciate you!”

The award was presented to Roland at the monthly school board meeting on Monday, November 19th, 2007.
“I’ve actually had parents from other schools in the area who have asked me, ‘Can we transfer our child? We’d like our child to go to Mariposa Elementary.’ And that’s all due to this new Roland music program. It is quite powerful,” beams Dr. Cunningham.
Roland recently sent a team from the piano and organ division to visit Mariposa Elementary to shadow the music classes and visit with the students.
“It was exciting to see our technology at work!” says Halon. “To see a classroom of kids, playing our VIMA keyboards, all at one time, was a sight to behold. It was thrilling.”
Prior to Roland’s install, Mariposa’s music education program consisted of a portable keyboard/piano that had to be toted from classroom to classroom which made interactive hands-on music education, difficult.

“These keyboards changed everything,” states Cunningham. “Our own teachers get so excited sometimes that I see them sitting at the extra keyboards and joining in on our lessons. That says a lot.”
