FARMINGDALE, NY, January 17, 2008 — 2008 marks a milestone in the history of Rico — the brand’s 80th Anniversary. A year-long series of concerts and events will accompany the anniversary and commence with a musical celebration to our key dealers and distributors, raising awareness about the new Reserve line for saxophone and clarinet, and rewarding the “top” International dealers of Rico. Concerts and events will be held at the Frankfurt MusikMesse, at Kansas City’s Clarinetfest 2008, and in Los Angeles.
In conjunction with the celebration, Rico will launch the “Rico Young Composer Award” established through the D’Addario Foundation. The contest will award one young composer for a new musical composition featuring the clarinet. One young composer under 25 years old will be selected by a prestigious panel of eminent musicians and composers and will be awarded a premiere performance of his or her work by world-class musicians.
“We’re pleased to celebrate this 80th anniversary,” says Jim D’Addario, CEO of D’Addario & Co., Inc. “Rico’s rich history and strong brand recognition are sure to remain strong for another 80 years. We’re excited about all the events and special promotions we have planned to showcase this world-renowned brand of reeds.”
