Legendary Rock Icon Steve Vai is the Mystery Cover Model Playing Electric Guitar on the Musician’s Friend Holiday Catalog.

Medford, OR, November 20, 2007 -- Musician’s Friend recently kicked off the Christmas season by giving customers the opportunity to guess the identity of the “Mystery Rock ‘n’ Roll Santa” gracing the cover of its December Holiday catalog. The online music gear retailer posted a series of hints on its website allowing music fans to test their rock trivia knowledge.

On November 16, modern rock guitar god Steve Vai was revealed as the cover subject and Musician’s Friend posted a web page complete with a behind-the-scenes video documenting the photo shoot. The video also eavesdrops on a conversation between Steve Vai and session photographer Larry DiMarzio, who coincidentally is also the designer of the DiMarzio guitar pickups that Vai uses on his guitars. The video offers a fascinating insider’s scoop on two men who have made a significant mark on rock history. The web feature also includes the clues provided to site visitors as part of the challenge of identifying Vai.

Musician’s Friend has also launched a Steve Vai VIP Sweepstakes giving fans a chance at winning an all-expense trip to meet Vai in a one-on-one Q&A session and take home an Ibanez Steve Vai Signature JEM77V electric guitar. The prizes are worth about $4,000.
