The curriculum, an intensive six-day crash course in technique, musicianship, music technology, style and performance, is geared towards intermediate players who have been looking for a chance to experience MI’s famous hands-on all music environment. While there are no entrance requirements for enrollment, those at the beginner level may find the program very fast paced. Program details vary by instrument.
Those who register now will receive the following: Technique Training, with six hours of intensive instrument specific classes; Private Lessons, which will allow students to focus on their personal style and technique during two one hour sessions with an expert MI instructor; and the opportunity to participate in Open Jam sessions.
In addition, there will be Open Counseling, in which students can ask questions and jam with world class musicians in intimate free form sessions; Special Seminars, which allow students to choose from a range of sessions on style, technique, music business and songwriting; a visiting guest artist concert; and the chance to rehearse and then perform live in front of an audience with a band that matches the student’s age, style and experience. Students will then take home a DVD of their live performances!
This past August 25, the City of Los Angeles honored Musicians Institute with a Mayor’s Proclamation marking the day as “Musicians Institute 30th Anniversary Day.”
Since opening its doors in 1977, has primed over 20,000 musicians, producers, engineers, vocalists and industry professionals for successful careers in every genre of contemporary music.
Located just blocks from the Capitol Records tower, MI has an incredible history of innovation dating back to its origins in 1977 as the Guitar Institute of Technology(GIT), which broke new ground as a performance-based contemporary music school taught by working professionals. Within a few years, GIT was joined by bass and drum programs to form Musicians Institute and the evolution has continued to this day with degree and certificate programs for career-minded guitarists, bassists, drummers, vocalists, keyboardists, recording engineers, independent producers, guitar makers, music-business professionals and filmmakers.
