Dynacord Cobra For International Bass Convention

United States
18 July 2007 — Over 1000 bassists from around the world—including low-end luminaries Stanley Clarke and Avishai Cohen—flocked to Oklahoma City University for the recent International Society of Bassists Convention, a week-long program of clinics and concerts celebrating the four-stringed thunderstick.

One of the biggest Dynacord users in the Midwest, Cory’s Audio Visual Services, Inc. (OKC), supplied a combination of Cobra-2 line array TOP boxes and PWH subs, EV monitors and mics, a Midas Verona console and Klark Teknik outboard gear for the show, ensuring every step of the signal chain was impressive for the ISB’s numerous live events and breakout rooms.

“We are really happy with how the Dynacord, EV, Midas and KT equipment all works and sounds together in this system,” says Preston Williams of Cory’s, himself a bass playing OCU alumni, who mixed FOH for the ISB concerts. “We can utilize this rig in a variety of different applications, from the big ISB bass bash to a conference downtown to a rock concert in a field. We’re really confident that, wherever we take this gear, we’re bringing the best possible sound available… and it all fits into the back of a small truck. Cobra’s quick setup, clarity and coverage make it unbeatable stacked or flown, and when you add a Midas console to the mix, KT outboard gear and EV monitors and mics, you have the best sound system for the size possible.”

With the absence of flying ability in the Kirkpatrick Auditorium at OCU, Cory’s ground stacked the Cobra-2 TOPs on the PWH subs using wedge plates; EV ZX1s were used as front fills to ensure even coverage throughout the listening area, including the balcony. Powered SxA250s on sticks and EV RE-2 wireless systems were deployed for the breakout rooms to guarantee sound quality was consistently high throughout the entire conference.

In addition, EV’s iconic RE20 microphone was right at home on stage with the bass crowd. EV endorser and RE20 enthusiast Avishai Cohen’s main room performances showcased the tight low-end articulation and depth the mic provides in live or studio settings, qualities that have made it standard issue for serious bassists.

Venerable bass virtuoso Stanley Clarke brought his own engineer to the ISB conference, who apparently “walked into the building, saw the Cobra rig and told me it was going to be a great day!” says Williams, “He actually specs the Cobra on his tech rider, and told me he loved the boxes. Everyone was happy and everything sounded great; this was a bass conference after all, and nothing delivers tight responsive low end like the Cobra PWH sub… yet another reason we choose the Dynacord Cobra system”.
