8 June 2007 — The City of Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan, celebrated its Centennial with the Yokosuka International Exchange Festival, staged in a unique and acoustically challenging venue—the Uraga Dock of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Yokosuka). Sound reinforcement specialists J.S.S. Inc. (Tokyo) supplied and supervised their newly purchased Electro-Voice XLD very-compact line array system for the festival, along with Electro-Voice P3000 power and Klark Teknik digital signal processing.

Founded in 1968, J.S.S. Inc. is a full-service SR company with a subsidiary in Los Angeles. J.S.S. was eager to add the XLD to their inventory, seeing great application flexibility in its combination of compact size and extremely high performance. The latest generation of EV line array technology delivers unmatched sonic finesse in the widest range of venues possible, from hotel lobbies to the largest concert halls, making it a supremely cost-effective choice for a busy rental/touring company. In addition to their XLD system, J.S.S purchased four Electro-Voice XLC215 subwoofer line array elements to handle low-end detailing.

“The Yokosuka International Exchange Festival was held in a vacant lot at a local shipyard, celebrating the city’s industrial cultural heritage,” says Mr. Yoshino of J.S.S. “The venue is very narrow (18 meters) and very long (approximately 150 meters from backstage to the back row), with high walls flanking each side. It’s an impressive space for a concert, but it posed some challenges when setting up delay towers, and FOH position was 78 meters away from the stage by necessity of the audience seating configuration. However, we were able to provide high fidelity and pure sound quality to match the prestige of the event, and the audience and organizers alike were amazed at the XLD’s power, coverage and performance.”
