Toronto-Based Band to Join Vans Warped Tour on August 12
MEDUCTIC, Canada (June 16, 2007) — After months of speculation and the judging of hundreds of songs and videos, Bombay Doors is the last band standing in SABIAN’s inaugural “Dream Spot” contest. Bombay Doors received a majority of the 50,000-plus fan votes, giving the Toronto-based band the opportunity to play 10 dates on the 2007 Vans Warped Tour, an international music and extreme sports festival. The newly crowned “Dream Spot” winners will also receive a $10,000 credit for band gear at a participating SABIAN retailer, a one-year SABIAN cymbal endorsement for its drummer, and a one-year 3D micro-site on cafesonique.com.
Joining the Vans Warped Tour in August, the band will play on the “Kevin Says” stage, the launching pad for such renowned SABIAN-playing bands as My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold and All American Rejects.
“Dream Spot” is far and away SABIAN’s most exciting promotion to date,” said Stacey Montgomery-Clark, SABIAN’s director of marketing. “It’s been an exciting experience and it was great to put the choice in the fans” hands. The judging panel narrowed it down, but the fans had the final say. They listened to the bands” songs, watched the videos and made their voice heard. Bombay Doors is a talented band and we’re thrilled to provide them with this opportunity. They’ll be a great addition to the Vans Warped Tour.”
Hundreds of bands submitted entries in the “Dream Spot” contest. Preliminary judging was conducted by a panel of industry professionals including Vans Warped Tour representatives, magazine editors and SABIAN’s artist relations team, who narrowed the list down to 10 finalists. The 10 finalists” videos and songs were then posted on www.SABIAN.com and www.CafeSonique.com for fan voting between June 1 and June 15.
Bombay Doors is comprised of five members: Bob Mather (vocals), Darren Ward (drums), Jeff Rosiana (guitar and keys), Andrew Lauzon (bass and vocals), and Greg Olsen (guitar and vocals). They have amassed quite a following in and around the Toronto area and are about to release a new self-recorded CD, “Toss the Match,” this summer.
Bombay Doors lead singer Bob Mather said, “SABIAN has really stepped up by hosting this contest. This opportunity is definitely a major step for us. We’re looking forward to joining the Warped Tour, but I think [drummer] Darren gets the sweeter part of this whole thing with the endorsement deal.”
The final 10 “Dream Spot” bands included Kidnapkin (Allston/Brighton, Mass.), Goodnight Sunrise (Helena, Mont.), Trophy Scars (Morristown, N.J.), Bordertown (London, Ontario, Canada), Congress of a Crow (Tulsa, Okla.), 16th Avenue (Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada), Permanent Holiday (Londerry, N.H.), Dose of Adolescence (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), and Someday Never (Marlboro, N.J.).
