Porl Thompson Signature Model [ Winter NAMM 2007 ]
Schecter is proud to announce the Porl Thompson Signature Model!
A long time “semi-hollow” player, Porl immediatly was drawn to Schecter’s Corsair model, which he used extensively for his return to the stage with the Cure. The Corsair became the basis for his new model.
The most striking aspect of Porl’s model is the wild tattoo art graphic by UK artist Kev Grey, which covers the entire face of the maple body, and features stark black and white contrasts. The 24¾″ scale set-in 3-piece mahogany neck has an ebony fingerboard which is highlighted by Porl’s infamous “X” signature at the 12th fret.
A pair of Seymour Duncan Designed HB-101 humbuckers were chosen to cover the wide variety of tones used through the band’s 30-year career.
The 101’s can be split via a “Pull to Tap” Tone control, yielding the brighter, jangley sounds of the Cure’s earlier recordings.
To help Porl conjure up his trademarked “keyboardesqe” textures, a Bigsby vibrato and a custom “rocker” tune-o-matic bridge are standard.
