Four new ESP basses were shown: the new Vintage-4 (BLK/M) and Vintage-4 (3TB/R) are part of ESP’s exciting new Vintage Series (See Related ESP News Article). Joining them in the ESP line are the Surveyor-5 (BLK/E) and the Surveyor-5 (NAT/M). Both basses are 5-string versions of ESP’s current popular Surveyor-II model. A bolt-on neck at 34” scale complements the hard ash body. The Surveyor-5 (BLK/E) offers a black finish and a maple neck with ebony fingerboard, while the Surveyor-5 (NAT/M) has a natural finish and maple neck with maple fingerboard. Both basses offer premium components such as chrome Gotoh tuners, Wilkinson WBBO-5 bridge/tailpiece, EMG MMTW-5 (B) / 40P-5 (N) pickups, and volume and balance controls with a B-30 Rev-S 3-band EQ and mini switch coil tap.
The LTD line has added 12 new basses. An entirely new body style for LTD basses is the new AX Series, including the AX-404 and the AX-104. The AX-404 is a neck-through design with mahogany body and white binding on the neck, while the AX-104 is a bolt-on model with an agathis body. Both basses use a 34” scale, and a three-piece 24-fret maple/rosewood neck. The AX-404 is highlighted with pearloid tribal graphic fingerboard inlays, Grover tuners, EMG 35DC Active Set pickups, volume/balance controls and an EMG B64 3-band active EQ. The AX-104 uses ESP-LTD tuners, and the ESP SB-4 Pickup Set with an ESP ABQ2 2-Band Active EQ.
Also brand new to the LTD line is the D Series. The D-4 and D-5 are new 4-string and 5-string models, respectively. Both offer 34” scale neck-thru designs, with beautiful natural dark merbau wood bodies and five-piece mahogany-maple necks with rosewood fingerboards inlaid with abalone dots and the model name at the 12th fret. Its Grover tuners are black nickel, and an ESP BB-604 bridge (BB-605 on the D-5) leads to a string-thru-body tail. The D-4 provides ESP’s SB-4 pickups (SB-5 pickups on the D-5) with ESP’s ABQ3 3-band active EQ.
ESP’s popular Surveyor Series has been updated to include the Surveyor-405 (BLK) and Surveyor-405 (NAT). Created by popular demand, these are five-string versions of LTD’s current Surveyor-400 model. Available in black and natural finishes, the Surveyor-405 is a bolt-on 34” scale bass with a hard ash body and maple neck with ebony fingerboard (maple fingerboard on the Natural model) and dot inlays. The chrome hardware includes ESP-LTD Vintage tuners, and Wilkinson WBBC-5 bridge/tailpiece. EMG MMTW-5 (B) / 40P5 (N) active pickups are supported by a B-30 Rev-S 3-band EQ and a mini switch coil tap for the brisge pickup. (Br. p/u)
Several current LTD bass styles have been updated with new woods, finishes, and featuires. The EC-254FM and Viper-254FM add a flamed maple top to replace LTD’s current EC-254 and Viper-254 models in the line. The F-405FM is a new five-string version of LTD’s F-404FM.
Three new basses with brand new woods have been added to LTD’s B Series basses. The B-404SM, B-405SM, and B-206SM make use of swamp ash bodies with spalted maple tops and a natural satin finish. Spalted maple is an excellent-sounding, lightweight material that produces a unique, highly pattern grain. The new spalted maple B-Series basses are 4-string, 5-string, and 6-string models that replace the B-404FM, B-405FM and B-206FM in the LTD line. The B-404SM and B-405SM are neck-thru designs at standard 34” scale. A five-piece maple/walnut neck and a rosewood fingerboard are implemented, with abalone dot inlays. Grover tuners and an ESP bridge are included, as well as EMG active pickups and EMG B64 3-band active EQ. The B-206SM has a bolt-on neck at 35” scale, ESP-LTD tuners, an ESP DB-6 bridge/tailpiece, and an ESP SB-6 pickup set with ABQ3 3-Band Active EQ.
