Mel Bay Records is pleased to announce the release of MB3 / Jazz Hits / Volume 1, the first CD from the guitar trio of Jimmy Bruno, Vic Juris and Corey Christiansen.
Each player eagerly embraced this opportunity to bring new life to popular standards.
“We took tunes that have been done millions of times in every freshman jazz class and blew the dust off them to make an original statement,” said Corey
A veteran of the Buddy Rich Big Band, Jimmy has released several outstanding solo albums and has worked extensively as a session player. He is also a highly regarded instructor, primarily teaching in the Philadelphia area.
Best known for his fusion work with the alto saxophonist Richie Cole, Vic has played with such jazz greats as Dave Liebman, Gary Peacock, Sarah Vaughan, and Dizzy Gillespie. A gifted educator, he teaches at several top schools around New York City.
A formidable composer and instrumentalist as well as a leading author and clinician, Corey released Awakening, his first album, in 2004. Unusually well received for a debut CD, Awakening was hailed by jazz critics and radio hosts. Corey is also an accomplished producer whose credits include MB3 as well as Vic’s previous CD and Peter Bernstein’s Live at Smoke, which he co-produced.
Corey, Jimmy and Vic released the first three CDs on Mel Bay Records. In July Vic and Corey released Live at the Smithsonian Jazz Café, their first DVD as a duo. Jimmy has recorded three DVDs for the label, including two from Chris’ Jazz Café in Philadelphia.
