ATLANTA, GA, February 20, 2007 — Celebrating the 30th anniversary of presenting excellence in jazz, the Atlanta Jazz Festival is back for another year of legendary performances, fine dining and eclectic jazz events all over the city. With 31 days of exciting activities and events throughout May, the Atlanta Jazz Festival has become one of the premier free jazz events in the country!
This outstanding festival gives Atlantans the opportunity to experience jazz, in every form and in many diverse venues, every day in May! From the Soulful Sounds of Summer Concert Series to the Late Night Jazz Jams, there is something for everyone to enjoy during this celebration of one of the country’s oldest and purest music forms.
The Atlanta Jazz Festival has played a major role in shaping Atlanta’s culture and diversity and is often described by Mayor Shirley Franklin as “one of the city’s proudest traditions.” Offering exceptional talent, including youth ensembles and high school jazz bands, the REEL Jazz Film series, master class workshops and jazz at Atlanta’s finest restaurants, the Atlanta Jazz Festival and the 31 Days of Jazz continue to breathe life into the city’s rich cultural scene.

May Events — The 30th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival:
31 days of Jazz: All month long enjoy special events and concerts around the city, offering the sounds of live jazz at venues throughout metro Atlanta.
Memorial Day Weekend Festival: Experience the best in jazz with performances over Memorial Day weekend from local, national and international favorites! Taking place in Piedmont Park, the Memorial Day Weekend festival features 3 performance stages — Main Stage, Smooth Jazz Stage and a Home Grown Stage. With artist vendors, fantastic festival food options, jazz education seminars and a special Kids’ Zone featuring children’s activities, the Memorial Day Weekend festival is perfect for the entire family!
Rhythm of Life Health Fair: Festival goers will have an opportunity to blend great music and healthy living. There will be free screenings for diabetes, high-blood pressure, glaucoma and HIV/AIDS, as well as onsite doctors to provide information and strategies for long term health care.
Digital Village: Festival goers will be able to preview the latest technology for musical enjoyment. At the Digital Village, you will be able to download music and onsite interviews from festival artists and much more!
Soulful Sounds of Summer Concert Series: Exclusive concert series at Chastain Park Amphitheatre, Atlanta’s most prestigious outdoor concert venue, featuring nationally recognized jazz musicians.
Youth Jazz Band Competition (April): Area High School Jazz Bands compete for a chance to perform on the Main Stage the last evening of the festival.
Late Night Jazz Jams: For you late night jazz lovers, the Atlanta Jazz Festival has just the event for you. After a full day of diverse jazz artists, festival attendees can wind down with a little rhythm at the official Atlanta Jazz Festival Host Hotel.
