Since the foundation of the band at the end of World War II near the city of Lisburn, in Northern Ireland, Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band has firmly established itself as one of the world’s pre-eminent Grade 1 pipe bands. Led by Drum Sergeant Keith Orr, the Field Marshal Montgomery Drum Corps continues to set benchmark standards in the pipe band drumming world with their creative and innovative percussion performances, both in competition and in concert.

Under the leadership of legendary Pipe Major Richard Parkes, MBE, the band is again the RSPBA World Champions, winning the prestigious event for the 5th time in 2006. Field Marshal were also crowned RSPBA Champions of Champions for the fourth time in five consecutive years, having once again collected the most championship points during the 2006 competition season.
As part of a unique partnership with Gaelic Themes, RG Hardie & Co., and Premier Percussion Ltd., the current Grade 1 World Champions debuted their custom finish “Montgomery” Blue Sparkle drums at the Celtic Connections concert held at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 27 January 2007. Now, with a demanding concert and competition season ahead, the band has chosen to use Premier’s world renowned HTS700 Pipe Band snare drums, along with the revolutionary range of Hosbilt Tenor & Bass drums.
