SWR Introduces SM-1500, The Big, Bad Boss Of Professional Bass Amps [ Winter NAMM 2007 ]

Flagship SM-1500 Bass Head Delivers 1,500 Watts of Total Low-End Control

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (January 18, 2007) — Hide your valuables and shelter the children. SWR® is proud to unleash the big, bad boss of professional bass heads, the SM-1500. This flagship 1,500-watt monster is the most powerful and precise bass amp in SWR history—if not the history of bass amplification—complete with dual 750-watt power modules, an onboard tube-driven compressor, the proprietary Bass Intensifier™ circuit, and an array of tone controls that would be right at home in the finest recording studios.

“The SM-1500 was designed as a totally uncompromising, take-no-prisoners bass head, for touring and recording professionals who demand the utmost in performance and power,” commented SWR marketing manager John Willis. “With this amp, we are reinforcing SWR’s position as the clear leader in professional bass amps, and we pit this amp against any and all pretenders to the throne.”

Although its massive 1,500 watts of power is the SM-1500’s calling card (at four ohms bridged; 750-watts per side at 2 ohms in stereo or dual mono), this is much more than a mere brute. Although the SM-1500 will absolutely rock the house with headroom to spare, it does so while providing the crystal-clear, full-range tone for which SWR has long been renowned.

This tonal precision and flexibility comes via SWR’s heralded preamp circuitry, as well as some unique engineering innovations—notably a proprietary Bass Intensifier circuit and high-quality onboard tube compression. The Bass Intensifier circuit boosts bass frequencies at near-subsonic levels, while the onboard tube compression—selectable pre- or post-EQ—offers full threshold, ratio, attack and release controls. Designed for uncompromising sonic integrity, this onboard processing performs in parallel with finicky outboard studio gear, and is built right into the head with easy knob-based controls.

The SM-1500’s EQ section is equally impressive. Dual independent EQ sections provide selectable 3-band semi-parametric controls and premium audiophile-grade circuitry. Master treble and bass controls allow quick global tailoring to suit the venue. Moreover, all of this EQ circuitry was painstakingly voiced to provide maximum flexibility, using a variety of popular bass guitars and in a variety of musical styles.

Of course, as a flagship offering, the SM-1500 is built like the proverbial tank, with robust controls, high-precision metering, and a very intuitive panel layout. The rear panel serves up a complete range of high-quality selectable direct out, line out, and speaker connections, as well effects send and stereo return, crossover outputs, tuner output, and more. An included four function ultra-durable footswitch provides fast control of the Bass Intensifier, boost, EQ selection and effects loop.

The SM-1500 bass amplifier is now available.
